Intensive Outpatient Program
Structured support. Evidence-based care. Designed to help you get your life back.
At High Valley Counseling, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a powerful level of support for people who need more than weekly therapy — but do not require inpatient or residential treatment. IOP is designed to help you stabilize, build skills, understand your symptoms, and feel supported every step of the way.
What Is IOP?
IOP is a structured mental-health treatment program where clients attend therapy several times a week, totaling at least 9 hours of treatment. It’s a flexible, effective option for people who are struggling but still able to safely live at home or in the community.
Our IOP includes:
-
Group therapy (3 days per week)
-
Weekly individual therapy
-
Evidence-based skills for anxiety, depression, trauma, mood regulation, communication, and more
-
Support tailored to your unique goals and needs
Most clients participate for 8–12 weeks, although length of stay varies based on individual progress.
Who Is IOP For?
IOP may be a good fit if you are:
-
Feeling overwhelmed or unable to manage symptoms with once-a-week therapy
-
Struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, mood instability, or life stress
-
Finding it hard to go to work, attend school, or maintain relationships
-
Wanting more consistent support to get back on track
Before joining, each client completes a Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment (CDA) to ensure IOP is the right level of care. If a different service would better meet your needs, we’ll help you get connected.
What to Expect in IOP
You’ll participate in a combination of group and individual therapy sessions, focusing on:
● Emotional skills and coping tools
Learn practical strategies to manage symptoms and reduce distress.
● Understanding your patterns
Identify triggers, habits, and cycles that keep you stuck.
● Building healthier relationships
Communication, boundaries, support systems, and emotional safety.
● Mindfulness & grounding skills
Reduce anxiety, increase presence, and grow emotional awareness.
● Goal setting and accountability
Work toward meaningful change with a supportive team behind you.
IOP is highly interactive and supportive. You’re not just attending therapy — you’re joining a community that understands what you’re going through.
Supportive Medical Oversight
Every client receives a psychiatric evaluation at admission and ongoing monthly follow-ups with a licensed medical provider (NP/PA/MD). This ensures that:
-
Medications are reviewed and optimized
-
Symptoms are monitored regularly
-
Treatment stays aligned with your goals and progress
We partner closely with your existing providers whenever appropriate.
Your Care Team
Our IOP team includes:
-
Licensed therapists
-
Skills and group facilitators
-
Case management support (if needed)
-
Psychiatric provider for medical oversight
Together, we create a treatment plan centered around you.
How Long Does IOP Last?
Most clients participate for 8–12 weeks, though the exact length is personalized. Some people graduate sooner; others benefit from a bit longer. We review your progress each week to ensure the program fits your needs.
Insurance & Cost
We accept:
-
Idaho Medicaid / Magellan

To participate in High Valley Counseling’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), clients need to be experiencing mental health symptoms that require more support than weekly therapy, but not the round-the-clock care of a hospital or inpatient program. Most people who enter IOP are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or other emotional challenges that are affecting daily life, relationships, or functioning.
Before starting, each client completes a comprehensive clinical assessment with one of our licensed providers. This helps us understand what you’re going through, whether IOP is the right level of care, and how we can best support you. IOP is a good fit when someone needs structured therapy several times a week—at least nine hours total—but can still safely live at home.
If IOP is right for you, we’ll work together to create a personalized treatment plan with clear goals. We also coordinate with your primary care provider or other professionals involved in your care so that everyone is on the same page. Our goal is to make the transition into IOP smooth, supportive, and centered on what you need most.
